Discovering home

It is always nice having friends visiting my hometown, since it has so much to offer. This month, I was lucky enough to have my bff, husband, mum-in-law and her partner visit.

My bff Wilman flew in for 36 hours on his way to Cambodia for work. He did mention the price for coming over has to include a lobster meal :p we fed him well!
We threw a house party so that my Malaysian family could meet my Italian ones. There were around 50 of us (mum and dad come from big families) and some even joined in via Skype! We also had a tea ceremony as part of Chinese wedding traditions.
The following day, we flew to Sandakan. The Italians were extremely excited at the prospect of seeing orang-utans at Sepilok. We were graced by a very special appearance.

The main highlight of the trip were the cruises down Kinabatangan river at sunset and at early dawn. We could feel the serenity of the jungle, accompanied by the sounds of nature; whilst shitting our pants because we knew the river is infested with crocs 😱

Wild orang-utans, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, kingfishers and egrets greeted our eyes, each growing bolder as darkness fell.

The man had gotten the hang of taking photos through binoculars lol

Also, a trip to the neighbouring islands cannot be missed! Remember to bring bread to feed the fishes 😝 we went to Pulau Mamutik and Pulau Sapi, a 20 minute boat ride from the city. A tip is to go early in the morning say 8:30am to beat the hoards of tourists!

Everyday was a feast for the eyes and fodder for our bellies. That roast pork! Omg that roast pork 😍

Dad picking up blow-pipe hunting at the Monsopiad Cultural Village.

Until next time!
