It has been a while since I have explored a new place alone. I have always preferred the company of others, believing it is better to have someone to share an experience with; two (or three or more!) is better than one; share food etc! So it was a delightful surprise to have found myself walking alone around Bergamo for the first time…and enjoying it!
I was there last Thursday for a work interview. The interview finished early in the morning and I opted to stay and explore instead of catching the next train home.
Bergamo is made up of two centres: città alta (upper city) and città bassà (lower city). I hiked up to the città alta as I was more interested in it as the historic centre.
The walk up was tranquil and refreshing. It was a sweltering hot day and the trees and greenery provided much better welcomed comfort.
The città alta is surrounded by Venetian walls built in the 16th century.
